Press Release:
Sublime consumer minimalists: junkhaus 1
7 emerging Winnipeg artists display new works for one night only event.
Junkhaus 1 is the inaugural exhibition of seven artists working within guidelines understood as sublime consumer minimalism. Combining the elements and aesthetics of installation art, digital photography, nature, and industrial materials/products; Junkhaus 1 features independent works in dialogue with the romanticism of manufacturing processes and an inherent draw to reduction.
The exhibition is one night only, June 20 2014. 7pm - Late.
Quotes from the artists:
"My work intersects the human body, nature, consumer culture and their relationship to the bound image. Exploring the concept of photographic representation within media and the internet, and aiming to create an anxious and critical distance from the subject."
-Hannah Doucet
"The work in Junkhaus 1 is most likely like the debris scattered in the aftermath of a collision. This collision can be understood as the contradictions and harmonies that are strewn throughout the mingling environments of real and unreal; natural and unnatural, idealism and pretension. The work is detritus of objects, ideas and the disposability of both, though I actually don't even know what is in the show."
-Jessica Evans
